#MyBodyMyRules

I saw and listened to Chimamanda in Conversation live last weekend and that’s all I can talk about right now. It was such an empowering and affirming experience. Empowering because in true “Aunty Chimmy” style, she focussed on the fact that women matter and we matter, equally. Affirming, because in a world that is constantly telling you ‘it really isn’t that deep’ or ‘why are you always so angry’, I always appreciate women who understand the struggle and know that it is actually that deep. As this article progresses, you’ll see that she really affirmed a lot of what I so desperately tried to articulate last week and she articulated my disorganised thoughts so aptly. The aim of the #mybodymyr

5 Questions to 5 Cool Girls: Feature 4.

1. Who are you and what makes you cool? My name is Ebube Emodi; most of my friends call me Bube or Boobs. I'm currently in my final year of Law at the University of Exeter, as well as a Creative Director at E|E Events, an events management company that I started with my sister, Emma. 2. Where/why/how/when did start? I guess it's fair to say that we both started planning events in High School; coincidentally both of us were Social Prefects (for me, this was from 2011-12). This "hobby" continued when I started going to school in England, and it was my 18th and her 21st birthday that made me realise I really loved planning events and had so much potential to be good at it. So in November 2014,

My President is a Misogynist

My President is a misogynist but we have to excuse his behaviour because he’s old My President is a misogynist but that does not mean he cannot do his job My President is a misogynist but what did I expect Context: I am Nigerian, and the President I speak of is General Muhammadu Buhari. 75 year old former military head of state that recently went MIA on a collapsing country, but that’s a different story. Late last year, Buhari’s wife, Aisha Buhari, criticised her husband’s government performance, and warned that she would not back him in the next elections (2019) if he does not shake up his government. Buhari publicly responded to this by saying “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to,

Men Are Trash

I went to Bristol a couple of weeks ago and whilst having a cute girly night in the topic of the tag line Men Are Trash came up. Now the question was something along the lines of 'if you have a boyfriend how can you say men are trash?' (obviously not directed at me). This question comes up a lot, especially around Valentine's Day when jokes were made about fewer girls tweeting men are trash. Now this question really really really reeaaallllyy grates because it just belittles the whole 'idea' (for lack of a better word). So I thought I'd finally address it. For me, when I say men are trash, I don't just think about their cheating, lying, scamming, emotionally blackmailing, abandoning, using a

Girl's Pity Party

The other day (back in January), I was telling someone about my blog and all that I wish for it to be. They asked why I named it BRAg and I didn't want to reveal the BRA aspect of it, so I stuck to the second 'meaning' and said "I just think that we should brag about it". By "it" I meant feminism, but for some reason they thought I meant brag about being a woman and launched into a discussion on how women have an inferiority complex. The discussion made it seem like feminism is just a girl's pity party and we are just gathered here today to whine about being treated unfairly. SO FALSE! From my understanding of feminism (please leave your own perspectives in the comment box) women and men are
